Karia traditional embroidery is undoubtedly a remarkable art form. To this day, women still embroider and weave in the old, traditional manner taught by their grandmothers.
The production of high quality olive oil, wine, citrus, honey and almonds is important to the economy of Lefkas. Fishing and some fish processing are also important for the island.
Special types of meat products such as salami and different types of sweets such as 'mantolata' (nougat), pasteli (sweet bars of honey and sesame) and the drink 'soumada' are some examples of traditional products of the island. The island's salt pans used to be important for the economy, but they have not been used for many years and are now used only as a tourist attraction.
Annually, thousands of tourists book a holiday trip to Lefkas.
