Climate and Weather

Chios, with about 265 days of sunshine a year, has, like most of the Greek islands, a warm Mediterranean climate influenced by the Aegean Sea. Summers are warm but not extremely hot with maximum temperatures between 25 and 33 degrees Celsius and hardly any precipitation. Occasionally, temperatures of around 40 degrees Celsius are reached, and in the winter, the temperature in the mountain areas can even drop below zero. Especially in August, a north-easterly sea breeze provides some cooling on the hottest days. The sea water has a temperature of about 22 degrees Celsius in the middle of the summer.

Winters on Chios are generally mild and pleasant with maximum temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius, but in this period there may be considerable rainfall.
