Population
In 2017, Kefalonia had a population of approximately 35,500. In the 1990s, Kefalonia had the fastest growing population in Greece, with growth rates of 35-40%.
The population density is around 35 inhabitants per km2. About a third of the population lives in the capital Argostoli. The second largest city on the island is Lixouri, and together they account for almost two-thirds of the total population.
