Climate and Weather

The island of Kefalonia is located west of the Greek mainland and has a Mediterranean climate with mild, wet winters, dry, hot summers and plenty of sunshine all year round, averaging 2,760 hours per year.

Due to its location in this part of Greece, the chance of rain in the spring and autumn is higher than on the islands to the south and south-east of the mainland. On Kefalonia there is an annual average of 700 mm of rain, divided into approximately 95 rainy days per year.

The annual average temperature is 18°C and in July the average daily temperature is 31°C. In summer, a moderate wind often blows from the north and in winter a strong wind usually blows from the south. In August, there is a chance of the "maestros", a northerly stormy wind, and the "sirocco", a very warm wind from the southeast. In winter, snowfall on Mount Aenos is a normal occurrence.
