Climate and Weather
Hydra has a moderately warm climate with dry summers and fairly wet winters. The average annual temperature on Hydra is around 18 °C and there is approximately 456 mm of precipitation per year. The driest month is August with 3 mm, the wettest month is December with 85 mm of precipitation. The warmest month of the year is August with an average temperature of 26.7 °C, January is the coldest month with an average temperature of 10.1 °C.
Spring April-May
Hydra has only a short spring, when temperatures are between 15 and 25 °C. The weather is still very changeable. The weather is still changeable with a chance of sudden showers. The sea temperature slowly begins to rise.
Summer June-August
As one would expect, the summers on Hydra are hot to very hot, with maximum temperatures during the day ranging between 25 and 38 °C. Humidity is low and rainfall infrequent. The temperature of the sea water rises to around 26 °C at the end of the summer. In August, the wind from the direction of North Africa increases and then the temperature can occasionally reach about 44 °C.
Autumn September-October
For everyone on Hydra, both residents and tourists, September-October is the most popular period. It is still warm then and the weather is still quite stable. Although the daytime temperatures are lower than in summer, the seawater still remains at a summer temperature for a long time.
Winter November-March
Winters on Hydra are generally cold and damp with lots of rain. Occasionally the temperature drops below freezing at night, but sunny, warm days are also common in January. In mountainous areas, the occasional flake of snow may fall, but it never lasts long.
