Population

The population of Corfu currently stands at just over 115,000, giving an average population density of around 200 inhabitants per km2. Almost a third of all people live in the capital city of Corfu. Other large municipalities include Lefkími and Thinali, and Corfu has 98 small municipalities with populations ranging from under 100 to around 2,000. Corfu is the third most populated island in Greece.

On Corfu permanently resides a fairly large group of Englishmen, who are often married to a Greek man or woman. There is even a Dutch group of women who married Greeks and founded a Dutch school for their children. There are also several thousand Albanians, mainly illegal economic refugees. Albanians of Greek origin have a residence permit.
