Economy
It should come as no surprise that tourism is the engine of Corfu's economy. More than half of the working population works in the tourist industry. In the winter, these people often work in the olive-growing industry.
The olive industry is another important industry with some factories producing olive oil. There are also people working in viticulture and fruit growing. Many small farmers grow cereals and vegetables, mostly for their own use. Some animals are also kept for meat, milk and eggs. Agriculture as an industry is most common in the central and southern parts of the island. Forestry and fishing are of little importance and there are also some factories making bricks and ceramics.
Almost 48% of all income is earned in the tourist industry, followed by agriculture and fishing with 35% and industrial activities with 17%.
