Vacations and Sightseeing
Rhodes is by far the most important tourist destination of the Dodecanese. More than three quarters of all guests who visit the Dodecanese come to Rhodes. In peak seasons, this can rise to a million visitors a year.
The main tourist attraction is the old town of Rhodes. Here you will find a combination of different architectural styles and influences, Turkish mosques, Italian and Johannite architecture. The old town is surrounded by a 12-metre thick city wall with several entrance gates. The most impressive is the Grand Master Palace of the Knights of St John.
Another excursion destination is the Acropolis of Lindos. Here you will find a large castle with a breathtaking view. A popular excursion is also the butterfly valley with beautiful natural scenes and, of course, butterflies. The excavations of the ancient Kamiros are a must for culture lovers. Boat trips to the surrounding islands are popular, especially during the heat of the high season.
