Economy
-On Patmos, many grapes, olives and tomatoes are cultivated, but fishing also contributes to the island's economy. (Religious) tourism is an increasingly important source of income. Many Athenians spend their holidays on Patmos, and the international jet set has found Chora as a place of residence. The painting of icons is experiencing a revival due to the arrival of many tourists.
-Skala is the economic and tourist centre of Patmos with many shops, restaurants and hotels.
-Skala has the island's only harbour, where ferries, catamarans and hydrofoils arrive or depart daily, several times a week or in summer only, from and to Piraeus on the mainland and to the islands of Kalymnos, Kos, Leros, Naxos, Rhodes, Samos, Ikaria, Lipsi and Simi.
-Culinary specialities of Patmos are 'pouggia' and 'tyropita', pastries.
