In 2017, Mykonos had 10,200 residents, of whom some four thousand were foreigners who have settled permanently on the island. This is one of the reasons why the number of islanders has more than doubled in forty years. In the summer, the island accommodates tourists from all corners of the world and the number of inhabitants rises to an average of around 50,000.
