The Cévennes is one of the least densely populated regions of France with a population density of about 15 inhabitants per square kilometre.
In the Lozère department, almost 80,000 Cévenols live, as the people from the Cévennes are called (2017). The largest town in the Cévennes is Alès with around 40,000 inhabitants.
