Population
Approximately 1.5 million people live on all the Canary Islands together. El Hierro has only 10,500 inhabitants and is therefore the island with the least population. On average, approximately 32 Herreños live there per km2. (2017)
Valverde, the capital of the island, has only 2,000 inhabitants. Frontera comes in second with 1800 inhabitants.
Many islanders have emigrated over the years to Cuba, Venezuela, but also often to the other Canary Islands, due to the poor living conditions.
