Normandy is home to 3,363,000 people (2017). The largest cities are Rouen, Le Havre, Caen, Cherbourg, Laval and Évreux. Rouen was once the capital of all Normandy. Now it is the capital of Haute-Normandie, while Caen is the capital of Basse-Normandie.
In Normandy, especially the Seine Valley is fairly densely populated. The average number of inhabitants in Haute-Normandie is about 170, that of Basse-Normandie about 85 per km2.
