Climate and Weather
Formentera has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers. Due to the small size of the island and the slight differences in altitude, the climate is fairly even throughout the island.
The wind is a constant factor on the relatively flat island. Strong winds occur in the periods December-January and April-May. In the winter period, the mistral blows from the north-west, the tramontana from the north and the gregale from the north-east. Other winds include the llevant, xaloc, migjorn, llebeig and ponent.

The average annual temperature is between 17 and 18°C, depending on the altitude. However, due to the influence of the sea and the constant wind, it almost never gets hotter than 30°C in the shade. Temperatures below freezing do not occur and the sun shines on more than 300 days. The water of the sea is nice and warm until November. It is remarkable that throughout the year the average sea temperature is higher than the average air temperature.
There is not much rain on Formentera. The area with the most rainfall is the highly located La Mola where annually approximately 440 mm fall. On the north coast at Punta de Trudadors only about 300 mm fall annually. With an average annual rainfall of 384 mm, Formentera is the driest of the Balearic Islands. Of course, the most rain falls in the winter, in the summer it is dry almost the entire period.Formentera has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers.
