Economy
The population of El Hierro lives mainly from agriculture. Most crops are grown for domestic consumption, but there are also exports, such as the excellent white wine from Hierro and the delicious goat cheese, the "queso blanco fresco". Frontera and Tigaday are important wine centres. Besides bananas and grapes, almonds, peaches, potatoes and tomatoes are also grown.
It is remarkable that every professional group on the island has united in a cooperative.
