Climate and Weather

The climate of Alsace is somewhat similar to the weather in the South of England, although it rains less often and is warmer in the summer.

Due to its central location and the fact that the mountain slopes of the Vosges Mountains block the prevailing moist westerly winds, Alsace has a dry semi-rural climate, which is excellent for growing wine.

This means that there is little rainfall throughout the year, with Colmar being one of the driest cities in France. In the winter, Alsace can get quite cold, but in the summer, the daytime average is 23 °C, several degrees warmer than the average in the Netherlands. In the months of June to September, the mercury can easily rise to well over 20 °C.
