Vacations and Sightseeing
Charlottetown is the small capital of Prince Edward Island and has a population of about 35,000. The downtown area has a distinctly charming atmosphere. The harbour town is located south of the central business district. Charlottetown is the centre of the island and is the hub of the tourist industry. The pace of life is not hectic and the quality of life is enriched by social and cultural events that take place throughout the year.
Prince Edward Island has a beautiful coastline. There are plenty of beaches to choose from and you are generally never more than 15 minutes' drive from a beach.
If you don't want to enjoy the beach, there are plenty of other ways to explore the area. The Confederation Trail is a walking and cycling path that runs from one end of the province to the other. It was built on former railway lines that once ran through the province. This trail is also used by winter sports enthusiasts in the winter months.
Prince Edward Island's national parks offer outdoor recreation and some are accessible year-round.
