Vacations and Sightseeing
Whitehorse is the capital and the most important city in Yukon. It is beautifully situated on the Yukon River and was once the starting point for the Klondike Gold Rush. The SS Klondike is a sternwheel boat and was built in 1937 to run between Whitehorse and Dawson and the boat is now on free display. The McBride Museum has a collection of photographs from the Gold Rush era and stuffed animals from all over Yukon.
Kluane National Park is one of the last untouched wildernesses in the world. It has a listing on the Unesco World Heritage List. The landscape is dominated by mountains and glaciers and you can see the largest ice fields in the world here, except in the polar regions. Dawson City was a city of 40,000 people during the Gold Rush. Dawson City has beautiful historic houses and Canada's first casino.
