Religion

Micronesia is almost entirely Christianised. Spanish Catholic missionaries converted the Mariana Islands and the western islands. Protestants from New England, USA, converted the Marshall Islands and the eastern islands. Chuuk, Nauru, Kiribati and Pohnpei have roughly equal numbers of Catholics and Protestants. Most Palauans are Christians and both Catholics and Protestants are well represented. However, the majority of the population is Roman Catholic. There are also Seventh-day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses and Baha'is. Modekngei is a modern form of the old indigenous religions in which nature spirits, ancestor worship and village spirits are central.
