Climate and Weather

The Seychelles, which lie close to the equator, naturally have a tropical climate. Despite the humid heat, the ever-present sea breeze makes it a pleasant place to be on the archipelago.

Temperatures are on average between 24 and 30 °C. The warm period is between December and April. The "cold" period is between June and October. The south-east monsoon from May to September and the north-west monsoon from October to April divide the country into two seasons. The north-west monsoon brings the most rain, especially in the period January to December. During this wetter season, up to 3,500 mm of rain often falls in the highest parts, while about 750 mm falls on the low-lying atolls. The rest of the year sees regular tropical showers. July and August are generally the driest months.

The Seychelles are one of the few places in the world that are not affected by natural hazards such as earthquakes or hurricanes. Only the Farquhar Islands are sometimes hit by cyclones. Also malaria and other tropical diseases do not occur on the islands.
