Vacations and Sightseeing
Coastal tourism is a growth sector, both in terms of income and job creation. Every year, about 250,000 tourists come to the island. Sardinia does not yet have high-rise hotels like along the Spanish costas, but there are many holiday parks that are often situated against the mountain slopes. Sardinia is especially popular among tourists who still like unspoilt nature and do not want to be surrounded by fellow countrymen.
The Costa Smeralda is also especially popular with the jet set and is nicknamed the Gold Coast. The Grotta di Nettuno can be reached by boat from the port of Alghero. After a steep descent, you will see wonderful stalactites and stalagmites.
The capital Cagliari has museums, a beautiful town hall and a castle that are worth visiting.
There are boat connections to the mainland and Sicily, and airports at Olbia, Cagliari and Alghero-Sassari.
