Vacations and Sightseeing
As far as tourism is concerned, Liechtenstein is mainly dependent on day tourism, especially visiting the capital Vaduz. Liechtenstein is mainly visited by bus companies that focus on trips to Central Europe.
Liechtenstein has a few dozen hotels and youth hostels, as well as holiday flats and private rooms. There are also two campsites.
Most tourists come from Germany and Switzerland.
The capital of the Principality of Liechtenstein is Vaduz. Sightseeing number one is of course the Schloss Vaduz, unfortunately not open to the public, but also worth seeing just from the outside. The castle is located on a hill and towers high above the city. You can see the castle from wherever you are in Vaduz. The oldest parts of the castle date back to the 12th century. St. Florin Cathedral, also called Vaduz Cathedral, is a beautiful neo-Gothic church. The cathedral is the centre of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vaduz. Since 1997 it is officially a cathedral, before that it was a parish church. Read more on the Vaduz page.
