Vacations and Sightseeing
Attempts to improve tourism were dealt a heavy blow by the crisis. Especially the wealthy Japanese stayed away en masse. Currently, 60% of the tourists come from the United States and 25% from Japan. Handicrafts, often made of shells, wood and pearls, are in great demand among tourists.
On islands such as Chuuk, shallow and vast lagoons are of monumental beauty, full of shipwrecks and kaleidoscopically coloured coral. The islands are a diver's paradise, and many claim that diving and snorkelling in this area are unparalleled in the world.
Discover the beautiful waterfalls of Pohnpei', with pools that are ideal for swimming. Two of the most beautiful are Kepirohi and Sahwartik. A 20-minute drive from Kolonia is the Nanpil River with a large natural pool. In the same river are the spectacular Liduduhniap Twin waterfalls.
