There is a separate ministry for Rodrigues that appoints the minister to deal with issues of importance to Rodrigues. There are two political parties on Rodrigues, the Organisation du Peuple Rodriguais (OPR) and the Mouvement Rodriguais.

The main school in Port Mathurin is the result of a partnership between the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican Church. There is also a large secondary school in Maréchal, which is attended by pupils from all over Rodrigues.
