Roman Catholicism is omnipresent and is the religion of the vast majority of the population, approximately 97%, although that may be an exaggeration.
Practitioners of other religions include Anglicans, Adventists, Muslims and Hindus. Witchcraft and sorcery are also still practised based on traditional Afro-Creole beliefs in the effectiveness of certain potions, magic words, amulets, herbs and divination, among other things.
The Creoles and the Chinese form the Catholic community, although some Chinese are members of the Anglican Church. The Muslim community is small and consists mainly of traders.
