Population

Isla Margarita has approximately 426,00 inhabitants (2017). In addition to the actual residents, there has been an influx of Venezuelans since the rise of tourism. Colombians and 'Turkos', people from the Mediterranean, also benefited from the boom in tourism. The locals, the Margariteños, were originally fishermen.

Besides American and Canadian tourists, more and more European tourists are coming to the archipelago.
