The Spanish spoken in Latin America is Castellano. It is quite different from the Spanish spoken in continental Europe, in terms of sentence structure, vocabulary and pronunciation. Very characteristic of Venezuelan is the frequent use of diminutives and pronunciations such as 'mi amor'. Furthermore, there are many typical Venezuelan words that are not used elsewhere in South America. The word for fine, 'chevere', is one such word.
Venezuelans speak very quickly and unclearly, which makes it difficult for Europeans to understand. Furthermore, Venezuelan is interspersed with corruptions of Indian and African languages.
Furthermore, there are about 25 Indian languages spoken in Venezuela. On Isla Margarita English is only spoken in the big hotels.
