Climate and Weather

The climate is relatively mild and rainy due to the maritime location. The Faroe Islands' climate is similar to Iceland's; it is generally slightly warmer and stormier. Precipitation in all forms, drizzle, mist, snow and rain, occurs on an average of 280 days per year. The weather can vary greatly locally at the same time. Thanks to the warm Gulf Stream, which flows past the islands, the temperature of the sea water is around 10°C all year round and therefore tempers the cold a little. The average temperature is 3°C in January and 11°C in July.
