Population
Originally, Bantu tribes lived on Pemba, after which many Persians and later Portuguese settled there. The current inhabitants of Pemba belong to the Wapemba population.
A total of about 1.3 million people live on the Zanzibar archipelago, about 543,000 live on Pemba. The islands are relatively densely populated.
Approximately 22,000 people live in the capital Chake Chake.
