Moldova has a temperate continental climate: summers are hot and long, with temperatures averaging 21.4°C in July. The relatively short winters are mild and dry, with January temperatures averaging -3.5°C. Annual rainfall ranges from 488 mm in the south to 617 mm in the north. Long dry spells are not exceptional.
Most precipitation falls in early summer and October. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are then quite normal.
