Vacations and Sightseeing
The most lucrative economic sector in the Cayman Islands is tourism.
Millions of tourists stay in the Cayman Islands every year. The lion's share of the tourists stay on Grand Cayman. The main attraction is The Seven Mile Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. One of the most visited attractions is the Queen Elizabeth II Botanical Park, which was opened in 1994 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The park has developed into a full-fledged garden and is popular with visitors and residents who appreciate beautiful natural gardens.
Pedro St. James Castle was originally built by an Englishman who arrived in the Islands in 1765. It is the oldest building on the Islands. The house is touted as the birthplace of the islands' democracy. It was here that the decision to vote for elected representatives was made in 1831 and four years later the law abolishing slavery was read here. The house has been restored by the government. Behind a traditional coral stone wall, you can see an authentic, three-storey 18th century house and outbuildings. The gardens are planted with pineapple, banana and other indigenous plants.
