Vacations and Sightseeing
Tourism is an increasingly important source of income for Cape Verde. Especially as a winter sun destination, Cape Verde is on the rise. The islands are suitable for beach holidays as well as for the more active traveller. Especially mountain climbing, hiking and diving are possible. Surfers often visit the islands Boavista and Sal.
Santiago with its capital Praia is the main attraction for the more culturally interested. The old city hall and the palace are the attractions in the colonial part of the city. The maritime museum and the ethnographic museum are the most important museums of Praia.
Fogo, the highest point in Cape Verde, is an active volcano and its slopes are covered with ash. You can take an adventurous trip to the top and you will be able to enjoy a beautiful view. One of the most striking buildings in the country is the Palacio de Presidente, the seat of the Executive Council of Sao Vicente. Its ornate, pink facade is very attractive, with traits and inspiration from Indian architecture.
