Climate and Weather

The average temperature is 26 °C. The islands are subject to the influence of the north-eastern trade wind for most of the year, which sometimes brings in dust from the Sahara. The rainy season is between August and October.

The island of Sao Tiago, where the capital Cidade de Praia is located, has an average annual rainfall of 250 mm. In the 1970s, however, sometimes less than 25 mm of rain fell per year. The islands on the western side of the archipelago have a pleasant climate, the others are tropical.
