Sint Eustatius has around 3,200 inhabitants. (2017) 78% of the population has the Dutch nationality, but only 45% was born on the island.
The official language is Dutch, but on the Windward Islands the native language is English. Papiamento is spoken by less than 5% of the population. These are mainly Antilleans from the Leeward Islands.
The Dutch colonists were almost all Protestant. They hardly interfered with the population. Catholic missionaries were much more fanatical in that respect, with the result that most people belong to the Roman Catholic Church, about 90%. There were also some Protestants and Jehovah's Witnesses.
