Population

Panama is home to 4.5 million people (2024). The population density is about 60 inhabitants per square kilometre.

Over 66% of Panama's population are Mestizos. Blacks, whites and Indians are the other population groups.

Language

The official language of Panama is Spanish. In addition, English and Indian languages are spoken.

Religion

Roman Catholicism is the main religion in Panama (85%). However, Protestantism is also growing. In addition, there is a fairly large Muslim community and smaller numbers of Hindus and Jews. The Indians have their own religious practices, but are increasingly being won over to Catholicism.
