Latvia has mild winters and cool summers. The average minimum temperatures in January range from -2.8°C in Liepaja to -6.6°C in Daugavpils. The minimum temperature in winter can drop to around -24°C in December. The average temperatures in July, the warmest month, are 16.7°C in Liepaja and 17.6°C in Daugavpils. The maximum temperature in summer can reach approx. 30°C. The average annual rainfall is 500-700 mm. Most rain falls in August and September. On average, it rains 180 days a year, is foggy on 44 days and really sunny only on 72 days. Snow covers almost three months of the year on average and the frost-free period is about 177 days.
