Tourism in Dubai is an important part of the Dubai government's strategy to maintain the flow of foreign money to the emirate. Dubai's appeal to tourists is mainly based on shopping, but also on visiting ancient and modern attractions. In 2007, Dubai was the 8th most visited city in the world. Dubai is expected to host more than 15 million tourists by 2015.
The Burj al-Arab is the most important icon of Dubai. Burj al-Arab is primarily a luxury hotel. The height of the Burj al-Arab, designed by Tom Wright is 321 metres and the building has 66 floors. It stands on an artificial island 280 metres off the coast in the Persian Gulf. The Burj Khalifa is even higher with 153 floors. This building contains a hotel, office space and residential apartments with all luxury amenities.
Jumeirah beach is the most famous beach and a major tourist attraction in Dubai. This beach stretches over 7 km and is divided into seven beaches. Wild Wadi Water Park is located at Jumeirah beach. There is a huge water playground. In the Water Park, children can enjoy the many attractions.
The Gold Soukh is the most famous gold market in the world. Here are gold shops where you can get a wide variety of gold products in different quality. Not only gold is sold here, but also a range of perfumes, spices and clothing.
