Vacation and Sightseeing

Yaounde is the capital of Cameroon, green and hilly, with chaotic traffic and winding roads. The Benedictine monastery, built in 1967, has displays of masks, bowls and bronze pipes. The chapel is decorated with traditional textiles and handicrafts. You can visit an open-air mass at Paroisse de N'Djong Melen. The choir singing, the drums, the dancing and the joie de vivre make this a memorable event. There are numerous markets in town and shops selling painted gourds, leather goods, jewellery and grisgris (chain charms).

Mount Cameroon is the highest mountain in Central and West Africa and one of the most important places to visit in Cameroon. It is suitable for adventurers, such as hikers and climbers. Guides are available and mountain walking is a great experience. Along the way there are tin-covered huts for trekkers to rest and stay.

Waza National Park is located in the far north province of Cameroon and was established in 1934. The park covers a total area of 1,700 square kilometres. The park is famous for its elephants. The vegetation of the park is mainly scrubland and the terrain is flat. Lions, giraffes, hippos, baboons, monkeys and antelopes are the animals you can see besides the elephants. The best time to visit the park is from March to May, when it is very warm and the waterholes are the best places to see the animals.
