Location

Gumbet is located in the southwest of Turkey. The neighboring Bodrum has grown so much in recent years that the cities can hardly be distinguished from each other. Gumbet is located right on the Mediterranean. From the port you can easily and quickly take the boat to the Greek island of Kos.

Weather

As is actually true for the entire coastline of the Mediterranean, there is also a Mediterranean climate in Gumbet. This results in warm summers and mild winters. Almost all year round there is hardly any rainfall. In the hot summer months, when the temperature can rise very much, a cooling breeze from the sea usually provides some cooling. It is also a good place to be in the winter months.

History

Gumbet is a typical modern Turkish resort. Although the city is centuries old, Gumbet only started to develop in the second part of the twentieth century. This development happened in the wake of neighbor Bodrum and was mainly aimed at mass tourism. That is why most of the city consists of hotels, resorts and apartment complexes. The fact that the Turkish seaside resort does not really have an appealing past is also reflected in the amount of sights in the city. That is why you have to go to Bodrum for historical sights. There you should of course visit the castle of the city, the castle of St. Peter, which also serves as a symbol of the city. The mausoleum of Halicarnassus, of which unfortunately only the foundations remain, is definitely worth a visit. This mausoleum is still known as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Have a look at the ancient Romans and visit the antique theater. This theater has been restored in every detail and has regained much of its old charm. In the valley between Bodrum and Gumbet there are also a few windmills that you can visit. These windmills were built by the local farmers and are used to this day.

Tips

However, most tourists head to Gumbet for three things: sun, sea and beach. And they prefer not to have to think about anything anymore. These elements can hardly come together better than during a wonderful holiday in Turkey. In the resorts of Gumbet you enjoy unlimited and carefree.

If you have had enough of the Turkish mainland, you can also easily take the boat to some Greek islands. For example, visit idyllic Kos for a day with its picturesque, typical Greek villages, lush beaches and abundance of cultural attractions that date back to Classical Antiquity.

Gumbet is also an extremely suitable destination for holidaymakers who like a party from time to time. From late afternoon until late at night, discover the nightlife around the "barstreet", where various Dutch, English and German pubs, cafes and discotheques can be found. Tourists and locals come from all over the region to party here, so don't leave your dancing shoes at home.
