Vacations and Sightseeing
Most tourists are day-trippers who arrive in the morning from St Maarten, climb the volcano (1064 steps) and leave again in the afternoon.
There are also some diving schools on Saba. There are still some historical buildings and churches on Saba. There is one road (The road) that connects the port, the airport and the four towns on Saba. The Harry L. Johnson Memorial Museum located in Windwardside tells interesting facts about Saba. The museum is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to noon and from 2 pm to 4 pm. In the mid-19th century, the museum was the home of a sailor from Saba. The house is still decorated in the style of the times and has collections of historical relics and family souvenirs.
The Saba Summer Festival, with music, good food and colourful parades, is well attended and takes place in the last week of July.
An interesting museum is the Dutch Museum Saba with unique pieces of antiques ranging from 150 to about 400 years old.
