The population of Niger is 19,246,344 (2014 estimate). The population density is about 15 inhabitants per square kilometre.

Death rate per 1000 inhabitants is 11.8 (2017)
Life expectancy is 55.9 years (men 54.7 and women 57.3 years) (2017)
Southern Niger is home to the farming Haussa (53.1%), Songhai and Djerma (21.2%) and Kanuri ( 5.9%). About 20% of the population are nomadic pastoralists who live in the north. These include the Fulani or Fulbe (6.5%), the Tuareg (11%) and the Tubo (0.4%).
Language
French is the official language of Niger. Furthermore, indigenous languages such as Hausa, Djerma, Kanuri and Tamasheq are spoken.
Religion
In Niger, 80% of the population is Muslim (Sunnis). The rest of the population practises an indigenous religion or is Christian.
