Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea and the best known holiday destination of Malaysia. The islands are part of the state of Kedah, which borders Thailand. By far the largest of the islands is Pulau Langkawi with the same name and a population of about 65,000. The only other inhabited island is Pulau Tuba. Bordered by long, white beaches and with an interior of jungle-covered hills and steep mountain peaks, it is easy to see why this is Malaysia's most promoted tourist destination. The most popular beaches are found on the west coast with a wide choice of restaurants and eateries and some of the best resorts in Langkawi.
