Puerto del Carmen
Puerto del Carmen is Lanzarote's most famous seaside resort and thus its tourist heart. On either side of an old fishing village, the resort extends widely along the coast. It is not without reason that Puerto del Carmen is so popular, as it offers a wide range of restaurants, entertainment, nightlife and especially fun on the water. Directly off the coast is a beautiful reef, famous among divers. All this means that the tourist facilities are fantastic and there is a wide range of hotels.

Location
People staying in Puerto del Carmen will not need transport for most activities: almost everything can be reached on foot. However, Lanzarote has much more to offer. For tourists who are interested in this, it may be attractive to rent a car. This gives you the freedom to discover the treasures of the island at your own pace. Puerto del Carmen's location is ideal, as it is close to the capital Arrecife. Lanzarote airport is also only about 10 minutes away.
Weather
One of the attractions of Lanzarote is its climate. The climate is pleasant all year round, which makes it an ideal winter sun destination. Temperatures rise above 18 degrees almost all year round and regularly reach 30 degrees. If the wind comes from Africa in the summer, temperatures can even reach 40 degrees. Hot, but the dryness of the air keeps the temperatures bearable. The only thing that some see as a slight disadvantage in Lanzarote is the strong wind (others see it as an advantage), but in Puerto del Carmen you don't have that problem as its wide beaches are wonderfully sheltered from the wind.

History
Puerto del Carmen is a modern seaside resort and therefore does not have a long history. The village has been a fishing village since time immemorial, but old remains have hardly been found. Therefore, not much can be said about its history. When Lanzarote became a popular destination for sun-seekers in the 1980s, Puerto del Carmen grew quickly due to its wonderful location and friendly population.

As mentioned, there are hardly any historical sights in Puerto del Carmen. Nature, however, is all the more beautiful. For example, pay a visit to Timanfaya National Park. This park is famous for the unique lunar landscape that can be admired here, it is almost surreal. The volcanic origin of Lanzarote can be clearly seen here.

Another highlight is the Cueva de los Verdes. Here you will find unique volcanic caves, which not only look special, but also sound special. The acoustics are absolutely unique. What this means exactly will not be given away here to keep it a surprise, but that you will find it unique is certain.
Tips

Tourism in the resort is particularly well developed. This means that the facilities in terms of restaurants and entertainment are excellent and the range of hotels and flats is also of a high standard. Renting a flat can be particularly attractive here, as it gives you the freedom to find your way around the island. Fancy a luxury holiday to unwind? That is also possible. The complexes often have numerous facilities. Saunas and wellness centres are no exception.
