Population

More than 24 million people live in Côte d'Ivoire (2017). The population density is about 75 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The natural population growth rate is 1.84%.(2017)
Birth rate per 1000 inhabitants is 27.7 (2017)
Mortality rate per 1000 inhabitants is 9.4 (2017)
Life expectancy is 59 years. (males 57.8 and females 60.2 years (2017)

Population composition:

The largest population group is the Akan (28.8%). There are also groups of Gur (16.1%), Mande (21.4%), Kru (8.5%) and numerous other peoples.

Language

French is the official language of Ivory coast, further about sixty indigenous languages and dialects. The two most important are Baoulé and Dioula.

Religion

The majority of Ivorians adhere to indigenous religions. There are also Christians and Muslims, of both about 30%.
