The largest ethnic groups are the Fulani or Peul (32%), living in the highlands of central Guinea, the Malinke (30%) in Upper Guinea, the Soussou (20%) in the coastal area and 18% smaller tribes and other groups.
Language
French is the official language of Guinea. Each ethnic group also speaks its own language.
Religion
About 85% of Guinea's population is Muslim. There are also 8% Christians and 7% follow an indigenous religion (animism).
