The population of Guinea is almost 14 million people (2024). The population density is about 60 inhabitants per square kilometre.

• Birth rate per 1000 inhabitants is 35.3 (2024)
• Death rate per 1000 inhabitants is 7.8 (2024)
• Life expectancy is 64.6 years. (men 62.7 and women 66.6 years (2024)

The largest ethnic groups are the Fulani or Peul (33.4%), living in the highlands of central Guinea, the Malinke (29.4%) in Upper Guinea, the Soussou (21.2%) in the coastal area and 16% smaller tribes and other groups.

Language

French is the official language of Guinea. Each ethnic group also speaks its own language.

Religion

About 85% of Guinea's population is Muslim. There are also 8% Christians and 7% follow an indigenous religion (animism).
