Population

The population of Guinea is almost 14 million people (2024). The population density is about 60 inhabitants per square kilometre.

The largest ethnic groups are the Fulani or Peul (33.4%), living in the highlands of central Guinea, the Malinke (29.4%) in Upper Guinea, the Soussou (21.2%) in the coastal area and 16% smaller tribes and other groups.

Language

French is the official language of Guinea. Each ethnic group also speaks its own language.

Religion

About 85% of Guinea's population is Muslim. There are also 8% Christians and 7% follow an indigenous religion (animism).
