In 1721, a trading post and a missionary post were again established in Greenland. The missionaries were very successful in converting the Greenland people to Christianity. About 99% of the population belong to the Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 1998 there were 17 congregations with 81 churches and chapels and 22 pastors.
