Population
Approximately 57,713 people live in Greenland (2017). The population density is the lowest in the world. Approximately 88% of the population belongs to the Inuit, the original inhabitants of Greenland. The name Eskimo is not used by the Greenlandic people. Many are also of mixed Inuit-Danish descent. The rest of the inhabitants are mostly Europeans, especially, of course, many Danes (approx. 8,000). 36% of the population is under the age of 25. The capital Nuuk had 17,000 inhabitants in 2017. Sisimiut is the second largest town in Greenland with about 5,500 inhabitants.
