Playa del Ingles

Playa del Ingles is the tourist center of Gran Canaria. Every year more than one million tourists choose a holiday in Gran Canaria. A good portion of them stay in one of the pleasant hotels in Playa del Ingles. In addition to the pleasant accommodations, the great climate and wonderful beaches make this town one of the most popular destinations in Europe.

Location

Playa del Ingles is located in the south of Gran Canaria and is part of the municipality of San Bartolome de Tirajana. The town is squeezed by the famous Maspalomas and the lesser known San Agustin. Directly on the town is the 2.7 kilometer long Playa del Ingles beach.

Weather

The sun shines for at least six hours a day all year round and the average maximum temperature does not fall below 20 degrees. In the hottest months there is an average of nine hours of sunshine a day and the mercury is around 28 degrees Celsius. Between September and April there is an average of one in six days of rain. In the summer months there is hardly any rainfall. The temperature of the sea fluctuates between 20 and 25 degrees all year round. April, May, October and November in particular are popular months for a holiday in Gran Canaria.

History

Playa del Ingles is a typical town that arose from Western prosperity development. In the 1960s it consisted of little more than a few dozen houses. After discovering the wonderful beach and the great climate, development could begin. In the initial phase, mainly high-rise buildings with many rooms were built. Most of these hotels have been renovated and have been made a lot friendlier in terms of appearance.

The center of Playa del Ingles is seventh heaven for shopping enthusiasts. A short distance from each other you will find shopping centers Tropical, Kasbah, Metro and Yumbo. Shopping centers can be recognized by the sign CC (Centro Comercial). The city center is also equipped with numerous restaurants, bars and nightlife. The restaurant El Gaucho in Kasbah and Sakura in Cita are highly recommended.

Theme parks have always been very popular in Gran Canaria. The Holiday World park, the Western-style park Sioux City and the Aqualand water park are all great destinations for a day trip. For a good game of golf you can visit the Campo de Golf course, for example. Adventurers can explore the beautiful dune area by camel.

Tips

Lovers of nature and hiking have come to the right place. The area around Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas is ideal for a romantic, adventurous or relaxing trip. After a walking tour it is nice to have a bite to eat in one of the restaurants. If you look just a little further than the center, there are nice restaurants where you can get a simple meal for a few euros.

The lovely beach is of course one of the main attractions of Playa del Ingles. The long sandy beach has a separate section for naturists. There is also a section aimed at homosexuals. The beach has cozy bars and nice restaurants along its entire length.
