Vacations and Sightseeing
Eritrea is a little-visited country. Before your departure, consult the advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The capital city is Asmara. Here you can visit the national museum, where you can see the origins of the identity of Eritrea. The tombstones from the Dalak Islands, finds from Adulis and Sabean and the scrolls from Ge'ez are the main attractions. The beautiful Enda Mariam Orthodox Church is located in the centre of the Asmara city and the four corners of this structure point to the four directions of the city. The church was built between 1938 and 1939. Although it is a Christian religious site, it also includes a major tourist attraction, the Berberstelim tree. The leaves of this tree were used by priests to preserve dead bodies. The Asmara Zoo is also worth a visit.
The Massawa Islands are a major tourist attraction in Eritrea. You can dive and lie on the beach here. The Dahlak islands are easy to reach from Massawa.
