Vactions and Sightseeing
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is not exactly the safest place to go on holiday. Before you leave, check the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The advantage is that it is a very unspoilt area.
Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, has a number of fascinating attractions. The Botanical Gardens are known for an arboretum of centennial trees in a peaceful setting by the river. Visitors can spend an afternoon amidst exotic foliage and tropical flowers. The research centre researches African plants and has recently looked at ways to extend the shelf life of fruit. The central market is a fascinating place to visit. Fresh produce can be bought from covered stalls that also sell a variety of everyday items.
Just a short distance from Kinshasa, Symphonies Naturelles is a pleasant place to spend an afternoon. It is an approximately 200 hectare forest, with opportunities to fish or enjoy the local fauna. You can enjoy a meal at the park's restaurant. There are many scenic routes you can follow along giant bamboo. Look out for hidden caves and giant termite mounds.
